The Heroine of Misfit Animals: Karen Jackson

"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them."

- William Shakespeare

As the above quote says, some have greatness thrust upon them, and Karen, our general manager, often falls into that category, especially when it comes to animals. Some might even say that saving animals is her super power.

Well this past Tuesday morning, the greatness was ready to be thrust upon her by who we've lovingly named "The Danger Twins."

Here is Karen's account of the incredible story:

"That morning, a customer called and said there was a kitten in the middle of the street in front of the store and maybe someone could grab it before it got hit. I ran out the door and a firefighter from Santee Fire Service District had seen him also & blocked the road. I ran out & so did the driver of the fire/rescue truck. He asked if it was my kitten. I said “no” but that I’d make sure it was healthy and find a home. He mentioned he’d be interested in keeping the kitten if I wasn’t going to. Hopefully that pans out! A few minutes later I was on the phone with Santee Animal Hospital when a customer came in looking for a box or something to transport a kitten they saw jump off the toolbox of a moving pickup truck in front of Santee Hardware. After much discussion, I ended up taking two kittens with obvious facial injuries to Santee Animal hospital. Both babies have de-gloving injuries on their lower jaw/lip from jumping off of the moving vehicle and sliding on asphalt. Thanks to Dr Heather & Dr. Kenneth Shuler, and their staff, they both will make a full recovery. Pretty sure I have homes for both already, but while they heal they are hanging out with the misfits. Introducing Bonsai (Bonnie) and Geronimo (Gerry) the Danger kittens!"
